Oakland Museum's White Elephant Sale is a great resource

February 4th, 2013

White_elephantThe White Elephant Sale returns to the San Francisco Bay Area for the 54th time on March 2 and 3, 2013. Admission is FREE! 10 am to 4 pm.

A Bay Area tradition, the White Elephant Sale packs bargains galore into a vast 96,000 square-foot warehouse located at 333 Lancaster Street on the Oakland Estuary. On sale days a free shuttle provides transportation to and from the Fruitvale BART station and the warehouse. Strollers, shoping carts, backpacks and large bags are not permitted in the warehouse.

With proceeds from the sale benefiting the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA), the Women’s Board over the years has contributed more than $18 million to support OMCA acquisitions, exhibitions, educational programs, capital improvements and more. The Sale is the Board’s only fund raising activity.

See a map of the warehouse to plan your trip and additional information at: http://www.whiteelephantsale.org

East Bay Express' Holiday Guide included in Nov 21 issue

November 18th, 2012

The East Bay Express is excited to add a “Made in the East Bay” section to our annual Holiday Guide magazine in the Nov. 21 issue. This section features the products made locally to thousands of holiday shoppers looking for unique gift ideas and wanting to support our local economy by buying local. Not only is it great to support independent storefront businesses, it’s extra warm and fuzzy (not to mention sensible) to support our local artisans  as well!

Over 40,000 copies of the Express’ Holiday Guide will be distributed throughout the East Bay just prior to [Black] Plaid Friday: www.plaidfriday.com. If you haven’t seen our annual Holiday Guide, check it out here: www.eastbayexpress.com/general/flash/2011/HolidayGuide2011/

The Express’ Holiday Guide is the single best guide to the East Bay for holiday shopping, merriment and activities.

We are also offering deep discounts if you are a current member of Buy Local Berkeley, Sustainable Business Alliance or Oakland Grown. Note: in many cases the savings will cover all or most of the annual membership dues to these nonprofit organizations that the Express proudly supports.
