Oakland Museum's White Elephant Sale is a great resource

February 4th, 2013

White_elephantThe White Elephant Sale returns to the San Francisco Bay Area for the 54th time on March 2 and 3, 2013. Admission is FREE! 10 am to 4 pm.

A Bay Area tradition, the White Elephant Sale packs bargains galore into a vast 96,000 square-foot warehouse located at 333 Lancaster Street on the Oakland Estuary. On sale days a free shuttle provides transportation to and from the Fruitvale BART station and the warehouse. Strollers, shoping carts, backpacks and large bags are not permitted in the warehouse.

With proceeds from the sale benefiting the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA), the Women’s Board over the years has contributed more than $18 million to support OMCA acquisitions, exhibitions, educational programs, capital improvements and more. The Sale is the Board’s only fund raising activity.

Glen Park Festival – SUNDAY APRIL 28TH, 2013

January 25th, 2013

Glen Park has felt like a neighborhood for a very long time. In fact, the first Glen Park all-neighborhood gathering took place 90 years ago, in 1911!

But the modern-day Festival came to life in 1997, created by a group of neighbors who had been talking about the neighborhood’s many artists and craftspeople. “Wouldn’t it be great for them to come together to exhibit their work in Glen Park?” the conversation went. “How about a street fair?” Thus, the Glen Park Festival began.

Since then, the Festival has evolved from a folksy, spontaneous neighborhood get-together to a well-planned annual event that combines fun and community support. The Festival brings residents, neighbors and friends together for a day of entertainment, music, dancing, and good food.

Craft vendors can apply at:
