Artists, Craftsmen and Artisans Wanted -Concord- Forth of July Weekend

March 16th, 2010

The Hilton Concord Hotel and the City of Concord will hold a Festival Americana this coming Fourth of July Weekend from Friday night, July 2, 2010 till Monday, July 5, 2010 at the Hilton Concord. We are looking for artists, artisans and craftsmen and women to display and sell their artwork, craft products etc. at the festival. There is no charge for having a booth. The hotel will provide tables, etc. for booths free of charge. The event is to benefit the John Muir Health Foundation which serves the poor of Concord and Contra Costa County. In lieu of an exhibitor/booth charge we are asking vendors to agree to donate 10% of gross sales to the John Muir Health foundation directly. This would qualify as a tax deductible donation. If you or a friend or colleague would like to sell or display your work at the festival, please contact David Cantando, general manager of the Hilton Concord directly at either 925-349-2654 or via email at david.cantando@hilton.com . The festival will also feature musicical groups playing various types of American music from different stages throughout the hotel as well as county fair type summer foods. The event will be a family oriented one, however we do expect a greater percentage of attendees to be adults. Please feel free to contact me at any time and I will be happy to provide additional details.

Most sincerely,

David Cantando

Booking designers for Chillin' Productions 12th Anniversary May 1 at Mezzanine

March 12th, 2010

The reason I am writing is because I am booking designers for our Chillin’ 12th Anniversary show at Mezzanine Saturday May 1, 2010. This show will feature: 80 fashion designers, 180 painters and photographers, 2 live painters, video installations and a bunch of great DJ’s.Show is from 8:00pm-2:00am

Our Mezzanine shows are really special and we only 2 a year. We normally have an attendance of about 2000 people. Our shows have been free for designers to vend for 12 years and my goal is not only for designers to make money but also get exposure in the press and make connections with boutiques and buyers in the Bay Area. My goal is to support the local art and fashion community here and keep SF a unique place.

I do not charge designers to vend but I do have some expectations and if those do not work for you we are not the show for you. I work really hard for the designers and I do the best I can but your help make a huge difference!

In order for you to do the show this is what I truly expect from you:

1. If you are doing another show that same day you can NOT do my show.
2. I expect ALL designers to get flyers from me
3. expect designers to post the event in their websites.
4. send an email blast about the show
5. post to facebook, myspace, yelp, going, etc.,

If you are Not willing to do this this is not the show for you.

Anyway, I am so excited about this show! If you are interested in the show email me fast as at times I get booked in less than an hour.

This is a very special show because it marks our 12th anniversary + I am opening a store/art gallery. I dream of many years. If you are interested in being part of our boutique also contact me and we can discuss opportunities.

If you have any questions feel free to call me.

Welcome to the San Francisco Bazaar SF Steering Committee!

March 11th, 2010

Thank you again to all the wonderful people who applied to be on our steering committee. San Francisco Bazaar SF is lucky to have the participation of 10 community members from the local craft scene. They are volunteering their time to help San Francisco Bazaar SF grow as a show and as a community event.  We’ll be working together in the coming year to increase BBSF’s presence in the craft community and find ways to better serve vendors and customers alike!

We’re happy to introduce….

Cheryl Aronson is a native northern Californian and owner of Moxieville Press, a division of Moxieville Creative. She is a Graphic Designer, Illustrator and Copywriter living and working in Petaluma. Besides design, illustration and writing, she keeps busy with designing custom letterpress and screen printed stationery and notes for any occasion. As an avid thrift store junkie, her current crafty mission is reviving the corsage. Moxie corsages are spun with vintage delights, kitschical nonsense and whimsy, some a bit irrereverent, others sweet as buttercream icing; but always, nostalgic and one-of-a-kind. The style of 1930’s -1960’s are her favorites, as kitsch and humor can help turn a pear-shaped day right again. Cheryl is founder of the Petaluma Craft MaïŹa which produces Craftaluma events. You can also visit her at www.moxieville.com and www.petalumacraftmaïŹa.com.

Kevin Clark is a biologist, educator and artisan and hopes to restore some sense of wonder about the natural world.  His museum insect displays allow people to get closer to these extraordinary animals in order to learn about their unique personalities and witness their stunning colors, intricate patterns and amazing detail. He has been working with insects in the craft business for over 8 years and has participated in over 100 shows.  Bug Under Glass is a SF Green Certified Business and displays only farm-raised insects that benefit forest conservation programs around the world. www.bugunderglass.com & www.etsy.com/shop/BugUnderGlass

Gabriel Colaluca, is a graduate of the University of San Francisco and makes his home in the vibrant Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco. Growing up, Gabriel was exposed to the best of art and culture through travel and education provided by his father. These experiences were key in molding his sense of aesthetic and design A sampling of pieces can be viewed at www.thebrownbanana.com Why “The Brown Banana?” Well, one of two things can be done with a banana a bit past its prime: throw it out, or make it into something tasty like banana bread or, perhaps, banana pudding with vanilla wafers! Mmmm. So, we strive to take materials you might find headed for the recycling bin and reclaim them for art’s sake.

Kim Emilianowicz is a high school visual art teacher, currently working in the SFUSD Court Schools, who truly enjoys the challenges and rewards of working with her amazing students. Kim has been teaching for three years and previously taught in Stockton, CA and Frankfurt, Germany. She graduated from Kent State University with a B.A. in Art Education and a B.F.A. in Jewelry, Metals & Enameling. Kim is a metalsmith with a strong appreciation of crafts.  When she is not teaching or making art, she enjoys taking advantage of the arts and culture of San Francisco.

Rebecca Morrissey is the designer and creator of MsCraftypants, purveyor of baby gear including bags, bedding, changing pads and mobiles with her focus on quality craftsmanship, bright colors and modern imagery.  She carries a line of grown-up quilts and bags for adults who want to nurture their inner child.  Her products are sturdy and built for use.  Having her own busy family, MsCraftypants’ products are regularly tested for durability. www.mscraftypants.com

Loretta Nguyen, an Oakland native and co-founder of fiftyseven-thirtythree which started in 2007 by Nguyen and James Dawson, a graduate of the California College of the Arts, fiftyseven-thirtythree operates out of the Oakland Cannery designing and producing hand screenprinted, stenciled, and appliqued tees and hoodies using solvent free inks on sweatshop free apparel. www.fiftyseven-thirtythree.com

Jim Phillips comes from a crafty Midwestern family; his paternal grandmother was a ceramicist and floral arranger, his maternal grandmother crocheted and had the greenest of thumbs, and his father was reknown for his pressed flower cards, bookmarks, and such. Jim himself dabbles in ATCs, collage, weaving, loom knitting, embroidery, and anything else that isn’t too messy. However, in regards to the BazBiz Steering Committee, he’s here as A Consumer. Jim grew up in the Midwest (where he learned all about craft fairs), put in over a decade in New York (where he learned all about shopping), and has been in San Francisco for 20 years (where he learned about shopping at craft fairs).

Riquelle Small is a local crafter and small business owner. It is Riquelle’s intention to share her abilities though the arts. She enjoys the healing arts, creating jewelry, design, video art, music, dancing, laughing and more. Visit her at www.wellspacegallery.com,  www.prettyfunjewelry.com &  www.riquelle.com

Nicole Vasbinder has designed the accessory line Queen Puff Puff since 2003 and sells her retro flavored handbags and accessories throughout the United States and beyond. As a sideline, she recently started making and selling journals made from recycled record albums under the label Vinyl Frontier. Nicole also owns StitchCraft, a hip sewing and craft studio in Petaluma, CA and co-produces the popular Petaluma Downtown Craft Mart.

During the day, Karrie Weaver is a geologist. At night she’s a crafter. She started as a knitter, and then became a spinner too. She have recently used her sewing skills to use to make needle cases. If you want to see what she is up to, check out her web page http://www.girlontherocks.com/knit

Glen Park Festival – Sunday April 25th 2010

January 1st, 2010

Glen Park has felt like a neighborhood for a very long time. In fact, the first Glen Park all-neighborhood gathering took place 90 years ago, in 1911!

But the modern-day Festival came to life in 1997, created by a group of neighbors who had been talking about the neighborhood’s many artists and craftspeople. “Wouldn’t it be great for them to come together to exhibit their work in Glen Park?” the conversation went. “How about a street fair?” Thus, the Glen Park Festival began.

Since then, the Festival has evolved from a folksy, spontaneous neighborhood get- together to a well-planned annual event that combines fun and community support. The Festival brings residents, neighbors and friends together for a day of entertainment, music, dancing, and good food. The day promotes neighborhood restaurants and artists and craftspeople, both from Glen Park and well beyond.

Vendor applications are now available on our website at http://www.glenparkfestival.com/vendor-application.shtml
