Jump over the bonfires to celebrate Persian New Year, rain or shine.  Shake off the darkness of winter into the fire; take back its rosy glow for spring. This is a Persian ritual passed down since ancient times. Persian techno music & dancing with DJ Dr. T, delicious Persian food, crafts, and children’s activities add to the experience in this free, evening outdoor event. Get a glimpse into beautiful Persian traditions and the secular culture of the Iranian-American community in the US. This is an alcohol-free, family-friendly event. Admission free.

Boom!  Boom!  Boom!  Of course there’s fireworks at dusk near the end of the Berkeley Pier but there’s a whole lot more including a music stage, kid’s stage, 30 food vendors, crafts, free dragon boat rides, free photo booth, pony rides, an inflatable park, Adventure Playground and more! This is an alcohol-free, family-friendly event. Admission free. Parking $15.

BERKELEY KITE FESTIVAL (32TH Year)

The sidewalks in the Gourmet Ghetto are artist’s targets at the CHOCOLATE & CHALK ART FESTIVAL during Sunday Streets (which stretches for another mile of fun). Make art – Eat Chocolate! Prizes! Crafts, food, wine & beer, music, pony rides, kid zone. The to-go menu features over 25 items including picante habañero chocolate gelato, goat cheese truffles, adult brownies, Oreo shakes, or savory menu items such as Caribbean chocolate soup, chocolate chicken tikka kabobs, and more. Spend your tickets on these delights available in the local businesses then savor your chocolate as you stroll along the sidewalks, viewing the artwork. Free, family-friendly event.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS (10th Year)

At the time of year when the veil between the living and dead is thought to be at its most diaphanous, gather to celebrate and remember those who have passed on. Bring photos for a community altar, free skeletal face painting, Latin food, musicians, Aztec dancers to bless the altar, candle light procession, DIY art projects, artist-installed altars. This is a free, family event. Alcohol available in adjacent restaurants.

SNOW DAY IN THE GOURMET GHETTO (8th Year)

Bring your boots and mittens to play in the snow that is predicted to gently fall in the Gourmet Ghetto. Visit with the Snow Queen, live pony rides, holiday crafts for kids, and warm up with hot cider and chewy cookies.  Find one-of-a-kind holiday gifts from local craft vendors. Find the ‘ice’ in a snowball (a diamond ring). This is a free event for children of all ages.
